Spring in the Midwest

34*, feels like 28*, 89% humidity, NE 8 mph wind, cloudy

Spring in the Midwest is a fickle thing. Unlike back home in the central valley of California, where it just gets warmer and stops raining, here you can have record breaking warmth one day (73* as of two days ago) and then snow the next (this morning I woke to a nice layer). And to think, yesterday I commented on the snow finally being gone from all parts of my yard.

We had our first thunderstorm of the year last night. The wind was fierce, the rain a goodly amount and then the snow. It was a busy, house shaking night. The wind tore up my tunnel covers from the ground where I had planted lettuce and other greens beneath. I put them back in place this morning but my seeds got snowed on. they are cool season plants, so I doubt this little bit of snow will harm them. My yard is a wind tunnel. I've said it before, I'll say it again. There aren't enough wind breaks around here!

At least the weather can distract me from more serious matters, like our first car payment being due. Funny that....we went ahead and got a car loan, bought a brand new car, only to have my husband get into a wreck with it a couple weeks latter...UGH! Its not a serious accident, the car isn't totaled or anything. Nor was it his fault. A car load of teenagers driving mom and dad's car decided to cut across opposing traffic and right in front of my husband on his way home from work. He couldn't stop in time to avoid them. It just looks ugly now and it does need repairs. The washer fluid reservoir is shattered, so is the bumper, and one headlight is loose. We have to wait for the insurance to tell us it's OK first and the deductible is $500. Frustrations...... But, at least nobody was hurt!

And at least we got the first ding out of the way..... any scratches from now on won't seem so bad. ;)

Yikes! Shouldn't they have to pay for it anyway, not your insurance?

In any case, we had those wacky thunderstorms yesterday, too. And then this morning I woke up to a coating of wet, thick snow on the grass, roofs, and other non-cement areas in the yard. Eek. I'm SO over snow already this year. :-P

The insurance will pay back the 500 deductable, but we have to pay it out first to the mechanic at the body shop.
