My stick garden
70*, 80% humidity, S 11 mph wind, cloudy
it was sprinkling off and on all day, so I figured it was the perfect time to plant my Arbor Day Foundation sticks. They are all going on the other side of the house, where the giant lawn is that I haven't even begin to touch yet. Some of these babies will someday have a spread of 80' wide and so I planted them accordingly so that they will have room to become beautiful someday. And some grow a scant 6-15' tall or wide and those I put near the house in hopes to shade the air conditioning unit (which helps make it more efficient in case you didn't know that) Here is the bundle of 10 tree sticks color coded to help me figure out which is which. They don't look like much but that's OK, I'm patient! (of course I will probably be long gone and dead before some of these get full size...the red oak will take 25 YEARS to even make acorns) I hope the wildlife is as patient as I am.
The instructions say to soak them for 3-6 hours before planting. And I did just that. During that time I did other things like plant my rhododendron in the ground and repot my voodoo sedum seedlings and make tonight's dinner---"Anything you want in it soup"
So now I have a garden of sticks (and a couple of them I wouldn't even call sticks) marked by stakes to help people to not step on them. Tomorrow I will mulch them but my lungs are telling me I did to much as it is for the day. *COUGH COUGH*
