Waking up to Smells, Rampaging Roses, More Seeds, and the Not Rocks

Spring is close. I know it now. This morning I woke to that change in the air, that indescribable smell that wakes me every year when the spring switch is thrown. And though the day is most certainly NOT spring like, there was that smell. It's close. It's coming! Speaking of smells, I also got a whiff of summer as I potted up my R. rugosas into bigger cups this morning. The leaves have a distinct rosy sweet summer smell. I did not know what it was at first, only that it was quite intoxicating to this winter bound girl. When I figured it out, I was very very pleased with myself. I have two whole trays of rose seedlings now, in cups, and another half a tray of seedlings that still need to be potted up which will end up as another tray and a few extras when they are all potted up. I am over flowing with baby roses!
While working in the seedling area, I fixed the damage the mutt did, and made it break-in proof from dog or cat. I then started some more seeds-- I started:
- Brussels Sprouts Falstaff (4 pots)
- Pepper- College 64L (3 pots)
- Pepper- Gourmet Rainbow Hyb. Mix (6 pots)
- Pepper- Jalapeno Chili (3 pots)
- Pepper- Purple Beauty (3 pots)
- Pepper- Serrano Chili (3 pots)
- Slim Jim Eggplant (3 pots)
After all that was done, I went outside and measured my front bed where I want the blue flower mix to go, lined with rocks, which is 42 square feet of space. I drove over to the nursery to see what rocks they had in stock. The round river rocks, sold by the unit, were outside my budget. I just could NOT convince myself to spend that much on rocks. Sadly, I had no choice but to go with something man made. Brown concrete edging. The sales woman was trying to talk me into the bright red, but I said I wanted the brown, as I really don't want to accentuate the fact that it's FAKE. Maybe once it's all installed (it's way too cold to spend much time outside today) the bed finished, and the flowers planted, it will look OK.

Those rose seedlings sound fascinating. Have you ever grown them before?
